Abbeville Chamber Recognizes 40th Anniversary
Abbeville, Ala. – Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, which is celebrating its 40th year in business during 2010, was recognized for its contributions to the community during the 54th annual Abbeville Chamber of Commerce banquet held on April 8.
State Representative Billy Beasley presented Jimmy Rane, Great Southern’s president and CEO, with a resolution passed by the Alabama House of Representatives honoring the company’s 40 years of business. Lucky Armstrong, Abbeville mayor pro-tem, and Ronnie Marshall, Chamber president, also presented a commemorative plaque to Rane.
Additionally, the Chamber honored Tony Rane, father of the Great Southern founder, at the event. Tony Rane was presented with a lifetime achievement award for his 64 years of dedicated service to promoting Abbeville and the local community. He was fundamental in organizing the Chamber and served as its first president in 1953.
Great Southern was founded in 1970 in Abbeville, Alabama. In recent years, the company has been recognized as the industry’s leading producer of pressure treated lumber products for DIY retail home centers, pro dealers and other retail building related segments. Additional plants are located in Columbus, Texas; Conyers, Georgia; Jesup, Georgia; Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama; Sumter County, Florida; Glenwood, Arkansas; Buckner, Missouri; Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and Brookhaven, Mississippi.
