GSW Subsidiary Acquires Mississippi Facility
ABBEVILLE, ALA. -- Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, the nation’s leading producer of pressure treated lumber, announced today that one of its subsidiaries has acquired a wood treating plant in Brookhaven, MS. The plant, formerly owned by Columbus Lumber, LLC, brings to 11 the total number of treatment facilities Great Southern and its subsidiaries own across the South and portions of the Midwest.
Jimmy Rane, Great Southern’s president and chief executive officer, said the company would make a substantial investment in the facility, resulting in 15 to 20 jobs for the Brookhaven area, including management, sales, taggers and administrative positions. The plant is expected to be fully operational by February 1st and will serve markets throughout Mississippi and Louisiana.
“We are planning to hit the ground running,” said Rane. “We are delighted to be moving into the Brookhaven community.”
As the industry leader, Great Southern is widely known for providing dealers with a broad range of pressure‐treated lumber products that serve all user segments from the homeowner, to farm and ranch needs, commercial applications, saltwater uses and more. The company is best known to consumers as the makers of YellaWood® brand pressure treated pine. YellaWood® brand products are easily identifiable by a distinctive yellow tag and have long been recognized by consumers, professional builders, architects and specifiers throughout the South and Midwest for quality and dependability. From fence products, columns, deck specialties, kiln‐dried after treatment (KDAT) products and other specialty items, YellaWood® is the brand of choice for outdoor building. The company also produces N‐Durz® brand borate treated lumber for interior applications and FlameFreez® brand fire retardant products for both residential and commercial applications.
According to Rane, Great Southern does more than provide lumber dealers with a broad range of pressure treated lumber products. “In addition to pressure treated products, we also distribute many other items, like TimberTech® composite decking, that are used in the building industry. Plus, we also have our own trucking company, Greenbush Logistics, Inc. By providing timely and dependable service of a broad range of building products, we’re able to help our dealers turn and manage their inventories more effectively. The more efficient our dealers can be with their inventories, the better they can serve the consumer,” he added.
Great Southern was founded in 1970 in Abbeville, Alabama. In recent years, the company has been recognized as the industry’s leading producer of pressure treated lumber products for D‐I‐Y retail home centers, pro dealers and other retail building related segments. Additional plants are located in Columbus, Texas; Conyers, Georgia; Jesup, Georgia; Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama; Sumter County, Florida; Glenwood, Arkansas; Buckner, Missouri, and Mt.
