Great Southern Subsidiary Acquires Plant
Abbeville, AL – Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated announced today that one of its subsidiaries has acquired a wood treating plant and related assets in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. The plant was formerly owned by Posey Lumber, LLC and P2P, LLC.
The addition of this facility gives Great Southern a total of 10 treating facilities and adds to its presence in the state of Texas. According to company president and CEO, Jimmy Rane, “Our focus has always been on providing great products and great service, and we’re excited to be able to expand our presence in east Texas as well as west Louisiana and the southern portions of Arkansas and Oklahoma.”
According to Rane, Great Southern offers dealers a complete array of building products from one source. “We’re perhaps best known by consumers for our flagship brand, YellaWood® brand pressure treated pine. It is easily identified by its little yellow end tag and consumers throughout the South and Midwest use it for a variety of outdoor building projects such as decks and fences. But we were also one of the first treaters to offer a borate treated lumber product in addition to traditional treated lumber.
“Our N-Durz® brand borate treated lumber has been very successful for interior applications,” continued Rane, “and our FlameFreez® brand fire retardant product is one of the fastest growing categories in Great Southern’s product line. However, these products are only part of our pressure treated lumber line-up. We also produce many other treated lumber products such as fence products, columns, deck specialties, posts, poles and specialty products to name a few.”
According to Rane, Great Southern does more than provide lumber dealers with a broad range of pressure treated lumber products. “In addition to pressure treated products, we also distribute many other items, like TimberTech® composite decking, that are used in the building industry. Plus, we also have our own trucking company, Greenbush Logistics, Inc., with a fleet of 248 trucks and 485 trailers. By providing timely and dependable service of a broad range of building products, we’re able to help our dealers turn and manage their inventories more effectively. The more efficient our dealers can be with their inventories, the better they can serve the consumer,” he added.
Last December the company announced that the MicroPro® preservative system used to treat its flagship brand, YellaWood® brand products, had been named the first wood preservation process to receive certification from Scientific Certification Systems as an Environmentally Preferable Product. “This is a milestone in our industry,” explained Rane, “and one we’re very excited about.”
