Osmose CCA Announcement

2/13/2002

Osmose, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of wood preservatives, announced today that it will voluntarily transition certain uses of its traditional preservative formulation, CCA, and will shift resources in the U.S. towards production of newer alternative preservatives. Osmose's newest formulation, referred to as NW100, is used to produce NatureWood(R) brand pressure treated wood products.

Osmose's decision to increase production of NW100 at this time was prompted by growing interest and anticipated market demand for alternative preserved wood products. Osmose is responding to changes in customer needs and trends and is firmly committed to developing and supplying innovative formulations that are reliable and effective in enhancing appearance and protecting wood from the negative effects of insects and decay.

For over 50 years CCA has been the preservative of choice in North America and much of the world for the protection of lumber used outdoors. While alternatives are gaining favor, Osmose expects CCA will continue to be the preferred choice for a variety of industrial applications and supports its re-registration for uses including highway construction, utility poles, pilings, timbers, shakes, shingles and certain marine and agricultural uses.

Wood is a natural, renewable resource that requires far less energy to produce than man-made products such as steel or plastic. Treatment with preservatives substantially extends the life of wood products exposed to the weather.
